Arbitration outcome statistics

This table collects figures that arbitral institutions publish about their own cases. Each row gives the period it covers and the publication it comes from. ICSID data run to 30 June 2026 1, and ICSID released Issue 2026-2 on 14 August 2026 9. ICC figures are preliminary for 2025 2. LCIA and CAS figures cover 2025 3,4. UNCTAD counts known treaty cases in all forums 5. PCA counts are taken from its cases page, which shows no update date 8. Periods differ, so figures from different rows should not be added together.

Notes

  • ICSID figures for fiscal year 2026 cover the year to 30 June 2026. Damages figures use the principal amount and exclude interest, costs and non-monetary relief 1.
  • The ICC figures are preliminary. The ICC said a full 2025 report would follow later in the year 2.
  • The LCIA report is cited from a copy of the LCIA document hosted by the law firm Aceris Law. The report could not be found or opened on lcia.org on 24 October 2026 3.
  • UNCTAD notes that some arbitrations are confidential, so the true number of treaty cases is likely higher 6.
  • UNCTAD's count of 1,401 cases at 31 December 2024 comes from its 15 April 2025 update 7.
  • ICSID's release gives the FY2026 split as 63% decided by the tribunal and 37% settled or otherwise discontinued. Issue 2026-2 prints these figures, and all-years outcome splits, in charts whose text does not tie each figure to its label, so the all-years splits are left out 9,1.
